Because wood is porous it will need some attention and maintenance for a long life in your kitchen. Here are some care instructions and tips.
Do not immerse the board fully in water when cleaning rather rinse your board with hot water and use a mild soap.
Clean both sides of the board as you want the board to dry evenly and not crack on one side.
Dry with a cotton cloth and store in an area of your kitchen which is light and airy.
For a hygienic wooden board with a mixture of white vinegar and water. You could also sprinkle baking soda on your board and then rinse with a dish cloth and hot water. This will also eliminate unwanted food smells.
Do not put your boards into the dishwasher
To avoid cracking, dryness, and warping of the wood board its best to oil the board frequently, this means at least once a month.
Oil your board using an oil of your choice (listed below are the best options). Cover the entire board back and front and let the oil soak into the board for a period before wiping away any excess. This allows the oil into the grain of the wood and helps nourish it and preserve its natural state.
Do not use any olive oils or food oils to oil your boards as they will go rancid, a few options are as follows:
Refined mineral oil
Tung oil
Raw Linseed oil
Beeswax or Wax-based salves
Walnut Oil
