Our Black Wattle knives are of very high quality but like all knives will become dull over time, so we have put together some tips on sharpening and caring for your knife.
Black Wattle sell sharpening Whetstones and Honing Bars, follow these simple instructions for sharpening and maintenance.
The stone comes with two grit variations: The course 1000-grit side which is blue and gets your dull blade sharp; while the 6000-grit which is white polishes and smooths the sharpened knife, finishing the sharpening process.
Wet the stone first and keep it wet during the process.
Use the blue side first and the plastic guide to maintain an angle and slide the knife back towards you, complete this action a few times. This will sharpen your knives edge.
Use the white side to finish the edge and polish the blade.
Wash in mild soapy water and dry immediately.
A Honing Steel Rod will re-align the edge of your knife and should be used frequently to keep and maintain an already sharp edge. Please note the steel rod won’t sharpen your knife, it just straightens out the cutting edge on the blade to allow for smoother and safer cut.
To keep your knife in good shape for many years to come we recommend the following:
Never cut on a marble countertop, glass plate, ceramic baking tray, steel tray and other similar surfaces which were not designed for cutting. Your best cutting surface is one of our Black Wattle cutting boards.
We recommend that you hand wash these knives and dry immediately after washing to retain their sharpness and superior finish.
Do not let the knife air dry and do not let the knife soak in the water.
Do not put your knife in the dishwasher.
Our Black Wattle Magnetic Block is ideal for storage, the wooden surface keeps the blade away from any surface that can damage it and the magnetic strip in this block keeps the knife off the bench.
Or use our universal knife holder will also do the trick. The polypropylene brush insert will accommodate blades of various sizes while protecting their edges from dulling, and you can even remove the insert for easy cleaning!
If you keep your knives in a drawer, it is ideal that the blades don’t touch each other or any other utensils as it may damage the blade.
